VTK and ParaView Training Course

Dates: October 27-28, 2008
Location: Bangkok, Thailand

This course is appropriate for developers who are new to VTK or ParaView and would like to understand the pipeline architecture, the rendering subsystem, and data visualization techniques applied to a variety of data types. This course is also appropriate for project managers who are considering using VTK or ParaView as a visualization solution, and educators who would like to use VTK or ParaView in their academic courses.

The cost for the 2 day training is $2,000 USD per attendee. Group and student discounts are available. Please contact courses@kitware.com for further information.

Each course attendee will receive a bound copy of the course notes, as well as the following three books:
 - The VTK User's Guide
 - The VTK Textbook
 - The ParaView Guide

Course attendees are required to bring a laptop. Assistance will be provided via email prior to download, install and/or build all necessary software. The course is interactive with about 50% of the time dedicated to lecture and 50% dedicated to hands-on exercises designed to reinforce the instructional material.

Monday October 27
AM Session
Introduction to VTK including the toolkit's history, the quality process / nightly testing strategy using CDash / CTest, and the build process using CMake. An overview of the toolkit will be provided, along with a detailed description of the rendering subsystem.
 
PM Session
A detailed introduction to VTK's pipeline architecture including the various supported structured and unstructured data models, and method for reading, writing, and processing this data. Concepts such as modification times, data streaming, and subject / observer event processing will be covered. In addition, several basic surface and volume rendering examples will be discussed.
Tuesday October 28
AM Session
A set of data visualization examples will be explored using a variety of data processing filters and visualization algorithms. The examples will include both structured and unstructured data, 2D image, 3D surface, and volume rendering visualization techniques, and various data processing algorithms. This session will cover basic user interaction for rotate / pan / zoom, as well as more complex interaction through the use of 3D widgets.
 
PM Session
An introduction to ParaView from the desktop user's point of view. An overview of ParaView functionality will be provided, and attendees will interact with a variety of data types to experience the power of VTK through an end-user application.

Registration and Pricing Information

The registration deadline is August 15th, 2008. If minimum attendance is not obtained, Kitware will notify all registered attendees of course cancellation by August 22nd, 2008. Note that payment is due on or before the first day of the course.

Attendee Cancellation and Substitution Policy

Cancellations: Kitware will refund 100% of the registration fee for cancellations received, in writing, on or before August 22, 2008. Cancellations made or received after August 22, 2008, will not receive a refund. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis for special circumstances, emergencies, or medical problems.

Substitutions: Should you be unable to attend, you may transfer your registration in its entirety to another member of your company, with approval from Kitware. Transfer requests must be received in writing by Kitware five (5) business days prior to the first day of Developer's Training Week. Any transfer request made less than five (5) business days prior to the first day of the training courses will be subject to a $200 substitution fee.
