Senior R&D Engineer
Álvaro Sánchez joined Kitware in October 2015 as a member of the Scientific Computing team. Prior to joining Kitware, he worked for four years as a software engineer at SurgicEye GmbH in Munich, Germany. During this time, he was one of the principal contributors to SurgicEye’s intraoperative imaging platform, for which he implemented modules for visualization of augmented reality overlays, volume rendering, real-time image processing, free-hand ultrasound reconstruction, and device integration. He was also lead engineer on several custom imaging software solutions for various technology partners of SurgicEye.
Álvaro received his B.S. in Engineering Physics in 2005 from the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM) in Monterrey, Mexico. Later, in 2011, he received his M.S. in Medical Imaging from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden. While a graduate student, Álvaro spent six months at INRIA-Sophia Antipolis in Valbonne, France, as a research intern, where he wrote his master’s thesis.
