Will Schroeder will discuss ‘Open Approaches to Technical Innovation‘ during the Imaging Panel Session on Tuesday, August 19, 2014.

Description:

Technical advances are becoming harder to realize. The scale, diversity, and complexity of scientific knowledge means that bigger, collaborative teams are required to make significant progress on difficult problems. In addition, serious concerns about the reproducibility of scientific results suggests that foundations of our knowledge may be at risk. This has profound implications on the manner in which technical innovation is pursued. New approaches are required that favor open, collaborative methods and agile, flexible systems that can readily adapt to a variety of technical challenges. This presentation lays out the case for this approach, and provides case studies describing methods for innovation in the computational sciences.
