Staff R&D Engineer
Max Smolens joined Kitware in July 2015 as an R&D Engineer in the Medical Computing team. His work is primarily focused on Slicer and related projects.
Before coming to Kitware, Max was a Senior Software Engineer at Geomagic. There he developed software including Geomagic Studio, for creation of digital models from physical objects; Geomagic Control, for automated quality inspection of manufactured parts; and Geomagic Freeform, for haptic sculpting of virtual clay.
Following 3D Systems’ acquisition of Geomagic in 2013, Max contributed to products such as the Cubify 3D printing software and the Sense family of 3D scanning software, including the iSense app for the iPhone and iPad.
Max received a B.S. in Computer Science from the Johns Hopkins University in 2002 and an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004.
