Najam Syed received a B.S. in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of Connecticut in 2010, after which he worked at the National Institutes of Health in the Laboratory of Malaria Immunology and Vaccinology. He went on to earn an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 2015. At Purdue, he studied autonomous robotics and human biomechanics, and his thesis examined the impact of robotic exoskeletons and assistive devices on the dynamics of human motion.
Prior to joining Kitware, he worked as a Design Engineer at Quantum Rehab, where he developed models and simulations of power wheelchair systems, as well as designed electromechanical components for power wheelchairs. During this time, he acquired an interest in machine learning and computer vision.
Najam joined the Computer Vision Group at Kitware as an R&D Engineer in March 2019.
