The Python ecosystem is rich in tools for data visualization, but having so many options can be confusing for users who have to learn about all the options and select the ones most appropriate for their needs. Thus it’s important to take a step back and think about the whole collection of tools and how they fit together. The Future of Python Data Visualization BoF at SciPy 2018 surveyed the current status and future directions of these tools, leading to a series of blog posts, and here we will meet to discuss progress since 2018 and any changes we see in the future outlook.

itkwidgets: Interactive Web-based 3D and 2D Spatial Visualization for Python

The itkwidgets python package integrates with the Python and Jupyter ecosystem and supports visualization of large imaging, geometry and point set datasets in 3D and 2D. During this talk, we will provide an overview of image volume rendering, slicing, and data probing capabilities and techniques used with these WebGL-based, interactive 3D widgets. We reveal new developments including integration with other ipywidgets in JupyterLab, Voilà applications.
