Artificial Intelligence for A Digital Blue Planet is a global forum that will connect marine research professionals from institutions and universities around the world to share their knowledge, skills, and innovative ideas on how AI could be used to improve the management of our aquatic ecosystems.

Matthew Dawkins, senior R&D engineer at Kitware, was invited to give a talk about VIAME and hold a short live Q&A session at the event. VIAME, or Video and Image Analytics for Marine Environments, is an open source software platform for do-it-yourself artificial intelligence that enables end-users to customize cutting-edge, deep learning methods without any programming or knowledge of how AI works. Originally funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), VIAME has multiple ongoing projects relating to wildlife detection (e.g. scallops, fish, marine mammals) in multiple locations around the world.
