Zhongyuan Chen is an R&D engineer on Kitware’s Software Solutions Team. He contributes to the open source CMake program and collaborates with customers to improve and develop build systems for complex C++ and mixed-language projects.

Prior to joining Kitware, John was a high-performance computing (HPC) software engineering intern at BCT LLC. There, he developed performance benchmarks and correctness tests for SHMEM 1.5 implementations, identified inefficiencies in SHMEM’s strided data APIs, and created an experimental module that significantly accelerated performance. He also configured and managed virtual Slurm clusters and optimized legacy codebases for newer SHMEM versions.

John is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Computer Science with a concentration in Computing Systems at Georgia Institute of Technology. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with a minor in Physics from Baruch College.
