Dr. Leotta graduated summa cum laude from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2003 with a dual bachelor's of science in Computer Science and Computer Systems Engineering. He received both his MS in Applied Mathematics in 2007 and his PhD in Engineering in 2010 from Brown University. He is a Rhode Island Space Grant Graduate Fellow and a member of the IEEE, the ACM, Eta Kappa Nu, and Tau Beta Pi.

Dr. Leotta's research interests are primarily tracking, 3D reconstruction, and recognition of objects in video streams. His research at Brown involved reconstructing 3D models of vehicles in traffic video. The title of his thesis was "Generic, Deformable Models for 3-D Vehicle Surveillance". He's also interested in the application of computer vision to robotics, computer graphics, and human computer interfaces.
