We are thrilled to announce that Matthew Olivier, a recent graduate of Shaker High School in Latham, New York, is the recipient of Kitware’s 2026 Open Door Scholarship!

At Kitware, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to pursue a passion for software engineering through a degree in computer science. We also recognize that financial and societal barriers can make that path more difficult for some students. The Open Door Scholarship helps make those opportunities more accessible by providing financial support, mentorship, and encouragement throughout a student’s academic journey.

This fall, Matthew will begin his studies at Hudson Valley Community College as a member of the Honors College. He plans to pursue computer science as a step toward earning his bachelor’s degree.

Matthew began learning Java during the summer after his sophomore year of high school. He continued developing his programming skills through computer science classes and projects, including games and other Java programs. He also worked as a teaching assistant during a college internship while pursuing a Google certificate in user experience design.

Matthew is interested in software engineering and using technology to address real-world challenges. As he begins college, he looks forward to learning from Kitware mentors and gaining a better understanding of the technology industry.

We are excited to support Matthew as he begins this next chapter and look forward to following his academic journey in the years ahead.

Congratulations, Matthew! On behalf of everyone at Kitware, we wish you continued success as you pursue your education and future career.
