Time Haines

Tim Haines is an R&D engineer on Kitware’s software and data solutions team. In this role, he contributes to the development of software infrastructure, developer tools, and high-performance computing solutions.

Prior to joining Kitware, Tim worked on the Department of Energy’s Exascale Computing Project (ECP), the first-ever collaboration among the U.S. national science laboratories to create a unified, sustainable software ecosystem that enables users to quickly port and run their software on the world’s largest supercomputers. Tim served as both the project and testing coordinator for Software Development Tools SDK, a collection of nine projects spanning academia and industry designed to analyze the performance and correctness of applications on enormous, heterogeneous High Performance Computing (HPC) systems.

It was in the role of project coordinator that Tim first worked with other Kitwareans in a cross-cutting effort to bring scalable software testing workflows to these large HPC systems. At the end of ECP, he worked with Ryan Krattinger to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of superior software sustainability into the next phase of software at the national laboratories.

Tim earned a Ph.D. and M.S. in astronomy from the University of Wisconsin. He also holds M.S. degrees in physics and astronomy, as well as B.S. degrees in physics, mathematics, computer science, and electrical and computer engineering from the University of Missouri.
