Kitware Team Grows in July

Kitware welcomed five new employees and one intern in July. Matthew Dawkins, Paul Tunison, and Nick Sullivan joined the computer vision group. Chris Harris joined the scientific visualization team, and Matthew McCormick joined the medical team. Benjamin Long is an intern who will be working on MIDAS for the next year.

Matthew Dawkins joined the computer vision team as an R&D engineer at the Clifton Park office. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in computer science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. He has previous experience as an intern for Digital Receiver Technology, a Boeing subsidiary, where he assisted in the development of embedded software applications for the protocol engineering department.

Paul Tunison started with Kitware in November 2010 as a computer vision intern at the Clifton Park office. He earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science from Union College in May 2011, and joined Kitware full-time in July. Paul has experience working as a student consultant for Union College’s information technology service where he assisted in campus computer system and technology maintenance, upgrades and repair, and resolving technical issues for faculty and students.

Nick Sullivan joined the computer vision team at the Clifton Park office. He received his bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Tufts University. For his capstone project he worked on a real-time arm pose tracking system for the Human-Computer Interaction Lab at Tufts. He has previous work experience as a strategic innovation intern at HID Global where he developed a system for image correction and assurance rating of secure ID cards.

Chris Harris joined as an R&D engineer on the scientific visualization team at the Clifton Park Office. He holds a master’s of engineering degree in computing from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in London, UK. Chris started his career at IBM United Kingdom Ltd, where he was a member of the middleware development team, and most recently worked at GLOBALFOUNDRIES as a Senior Software Engineer.

Matthew McCormick joined the medical team at the Clifton Park office. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in biomedical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.S. in biomedical engineering from Marquette University. His Ph.D. thesis focused on characterization of carotid plaque, a primary cause of stroke, with diagnostic ultrasound. The principal aim of this research was to develop algorithms to quantify local deformation in the plaque from raw ultrasound image data. He also has experience as an intern with the Boston Scientific Corporation working on peripheral vascular nitinol stents.

Benjamin Long joined as a year-long intern at the Carrboro office, where he will be working on MIDAS. He is a student at the CPE Lyon school of chemistry, physics, and electronics where he majors in electronic, telecommunication and informatics (ETI) and minors in computer science, C and C++, and in image processing. Benjamin has previous intern experience at STV Transformateur.
