Kitware Welcomes Dr. Mike Ter Louw as Director of Advanced Cybersecurity Research
Strategic hire marks Kitware’s expansion into cybersecurity research and resilience technologies, building on our established defense AI research capabilities to address emerging threats.
Clifton Park, N.Y.– 29 October 2026 – Kitware is pleased to announce that Mike Ter Louw, Ph.D., has joined the company as Director of Advanced Cybersecurity Research. His appointment marks the launch of cybersecurity research as a new focus area at Kitware. In this role, Ter Louw will lead research efforts focused on finding novel solutions to emerging cyber threats and critical security challenges.
This expansion builds on Kitware’s expertise in AI, machine learning, and software development, including its existing cybersecurity work with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), such as In the Moment, which focuses on AI making complex decisions, and E-BOSS, which focuses on software supply chain security. By combining our established defense AI capabilities with cybersecurity research, Kitware aims to investigate challenges that existing technologies cannot adequately solve.

Before joining Kitware, Ter Louw served as Vice President and Chief Science Officer of CACI’s Cyber Science & Technology Division, where he directed national security research programs involving AI, machine learning, and cybersecurity. He previously held research leadership positions, developing technologies for active cyber defense, network threat detection and software security, and is a U.S. Army veteran.
