Kitware recognizes individuals who will be essential in advancing science through software R&D and new business opportunities.

Clifton Park, N.Y. (January 9, 2023) – Kitware, a leader in software research and development and advanced AI, is pleased to promote 18 employees in 2023. These individuals have helped Kitware deliver innovation to customers through their passion, knowledge, and ability to build strong relationships with customers and collaborators. As the company continues to develop its popular open source platforms, including ParaView, CMake, and VTK, and build new applications based on these platforms, the following individuals will play an essential role in helping Kitware connect with new customers to advance science and technology.

Senior Management

Andinet Enquobahrie

Andinet Enquobahrie, Ph.D.

Senior Director of Medical Computing, Medical Computing

Andinet joined Kitware in 2005 and began leading the Medical Computing Team in 2017. Since then, the team has grown in size, added new areas of expertise, and developed four popular open source platforms. Andinet is a subject matter expert for software that combines image analysis, 3D visualization, and machine learning to improve medical procedure outcomes, reduce time, and decrease complications. He was the driving force behind Kitware’s HIPAA policies and FDA strategy, allowing the company to expand its product development services. Andinet will continue to focus on commercial medical products, transitioning research into impactful software for customers.

Brian Clipp

Brian Clipp, Ph.D.

Assistant Director of Computer Vision, Computer Vision

Brian joined Kitware in 2017 and made an immediate impact in the area of 3D visualization. He has either led or been a significant contributor to government projects with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Office of Naval Research (ONR), Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA), and more. He successfully manages large teams and rigorous third-party evaluations on projects that are multi-year, multi-million dollar efforts. In addition, Brian is the senior member of the Computer Vision Team at Kitware’s North Carolina office and manages the team’s office and lab space.

Jillian Cutrone

Jillian Cutrone

Director of Marketing, Business Development

Jillian joined Kitware in 2019 and has worked to establish a strong marketing presence within the Business Development Team. She elevated Kitware’s corporate image by overseeing a rebrand and redesigning Kitware’s corporate website. She also continues to support Kitware’s strategic plan and business goals by increasing awareness of Kitware’s expertise in artificial intelligence and developing cutting-edge open source software. Jillian also works closely with Kitware’s HR Team to enhance recruiting efforts. In her new role, Jillian will provide leadership and set the direction for the company’s marketing and public relations efforts while focusing on growing Kitware’s business opportunities. 

Meredith Lapati

Meredith Lapati

Director of Contracts, Contracts

Meredith joined Kitware in 2013. She understands all aspects of Kitware’s contracts lifecycle due to her extensive experience in accounting, auditing, compliance, and contracts administration. Since January 2020, Meredith has been supervising the contract team members and overseeing all proposal submissions and contract negotiations. She also played a key role in multiple strategic planning initiatives, including the development of a negotiation playbook, which will drive efficiencies in the contracting process. In her new position, Meredith will be responsible for proposal and contracting processes, serve as the point person for all contracts-related concerns, and lead complex contract negotiations.

Samantha Horvath

Samantha Horvath

Principal Engineer, Medical Computing

Since joining Kitware in 2017, Sam has been one of Kitware’s lead 3D Slicer developers. Her hard work has been key to the success of many of Kitware’s federal and commercial projects. She has also formed a strong working relationship with the 3D Slicer community by organizing weekly Slicer Hangouts and bi-annual Project Week events, and by having a major role in leading regular package releases for 3D Slicer to help keep the application at the forefront of medical visualization and research. 

Michael Lorusso

Michael Lorusso

Financial Reporting and Accounting Principal, Finance

When Michael joined Kitware in 2019, he was responsible for handling the preparation of Kitware’s budget and financial estimates for new government and commercial business. While doing so, he maintained a focus on efficiency and demonstrated skill in financial reporting. He now maintains ownership over most of Kitware’s corporate accounting records and coordinates Kitware’s annual budgeting process. He has recently taken on the role of facilitating the annual audits of our corporate financial statements and programs and will continue to take on more responsibility in these areas. 

Kim O'Leary

Kim O’Leary

Operational Accounting Principal, Finance

Since Kim joined Kitware in 2016, she has played a key role in implementing new software to improve internal processes. Kim also serves as Kitware’s asset tracking officer, ensuring compliance with government standards. She plays a key role in state tax reporting and compliance, which continues to grow in volume and complexity as Kitware has grown to operate in 28 states. Kim has also taken on a supervisory role in many administrative and facility management functions, including helping retrofit new Kitware office spaces.

TEAM PROMOTIONS

Joshua Anderson

Senior R&D Engineer, Computer Vision

Josh joined Kitware in 2021 and has made significant software engineering and design contributions to numerous government AI programs. He has demonstrated the ability to develop maintainable software systems on a tight schedule, most recently on the DARPA PTG project, where he created a HoloLens application that streams sensor data to a PC in real time and integrates an AR user interface.  

Vincente Bolea

Vicente Bolea Sanchez

Senior R&D Engineer, Scientific Computing

Since Vicente joined Kitware in 2020, he has made significant contributions to many of Kitware’s open source platforms and applications, including VTK, ParaView, and ADIOS. He is now one of the release managers for many of these packages and is one of the leading developers for ADIOS. He has also made significant contributions to VTK-m, including developing and maintaining the testing infrastructure on supercomputers.

Ashley Carbino

Ashley Carbino

Senior Contracts Administrator, Contracts

Ashley joined Kitware in 2019 with extensive knowledge of grant administration and the contractual needs of Kitware’s academic collaborators. She was the first Kitware contracts administrator to oversee the full contracts life cycle for the Computer Vision Team’s complex awards, from proposal inception to contract closeout. Ashley plays a key role in developing processes and checklists and trains new contracts administrators on Kitware’s procedures.

Daniel Davila

Staff R&D Engineer, Computer Vision

Daniel joined Kitware in 2019 and has been a valuable leader in multiple AI projects. He researched the agile development process and helped refine its implementation on a DARPA program and led the development of AI systems deployed for operational use across multiple new projects for AFRL. Dan’s leadership and project management skills were also crucial in developing the MEVID dataset.  

Kyle Edwards

Kyle Edwards

R&D Engineer, Software Solutions

Since Kyle joined Kitware in 2017, he has made significant contributions to CMake and to many other software projects. He has also become one of the key CMake developers at Kitware, adding many exciting new features. He specializes in hardware, systems programming, and assembly language. 

Anne Haley

Anne Haley

Senior R&D Engineer, Data and Analytics

Anne joined Kitware in 2021 and has made significant technical contributions across a wide breadth of projects. She was the lead software developer on the open source MIQA application for medical imaging and has made impactful contributions to the vtk.js project ecosystem, working with Kitware’s Scientific Computing Team.

Brian Hu, Ph.D.

Staff R&D Engineer, Computer Vision

Brian joined Kitware in 2020 and has made an impact in his short tenure at Kitware through various government projects and SBIRs. He provided effective, exemplary leadership on the DARPA XAI project, directly resulting in additional funding to create the Explainable AI Toolkit. He also makes consistent contributions to Kitware’s internal AI initiatives. 

Cameron Johnson

Senior R&D Engineer, Computer Vision

Cameron joined Kitware in 2018 and has made significant contributions to several government projects. On the DARPA SemaFor project, he became the software integration lead and has managed the submission of about 30 different algorithms integrated into the programming API from a large team of 8 organizations. He effectively communicates and coordinates with internal and external colleagues as well as customers.

Ian Sacklow

Senior Systems Administrator, System Administration

Since Ian started at Kitware in 2017, he has been dedicated to supporting Kitware’s systems and, in particular, Linux laptops, desktops, servers, GPU systems, secure facilities, dashboards, and Ansible rollouts for supporting CUI. He’s been instrumental to Kitware’s success in ensuring employees are well supported, and allowing the company to meet various compliance requirements.

Samantha Schmitt

Senior Marketing Communications Specialist, Business Development

Samantha joined Kitware in 2020 and has made a significant impact on Kitware’s external marketing efforts. She has taken ownership of Kitware’s conference logistics, content development for Kitware’s blog and social media channels, PR efforts, and messaging for marketing materials. Samantha is dedicated to helping Kitware elevate its image with external customers and collaborators. 

Chris Soja

Senior Financial/Budget Analyst, Finance

Chris joined Kitware in 2020 and has been instrumental in preparing budgets and financial estimates for Kitware’s new government and commercial business and ensuring proposals are submitted in compliance with governmental agency regulations. In addition, he has taken on other financial reporting tasks, including analyzing and reporting on project profitability and preparing third-party monthly project financial reports and forecasts. 

Bane Sullivan

Senior R&D Engineer, Data and Analytics

Bane joined Kitware in 2020 and has since significantly grown his scope of contributions. Beyond being an excellent software developer, Bane has engaged in new and important activities beneficial to Kitware, including many areas of business development, project and customer account management, and strategic product work.
